About Stat Mania

A free place to learn statistics by reading, watching, playing and experimenting

What is Stat Mania?

Stat Mania is a free learning site for statistics, mathematics and data science. It started as a collection of lecture slides for college students and has grown into a small ecosystem: slides, a blog, an interactive R course, data tools, quizzes, and a growing arcade of games that sneak real probability and number sense into play.

Everything runs in your browser. There is nothing to install, no account to create and nothing to pay for.

The guiding idea is simple: statistics sticks when you can poke at it. So wherever possible, a concept comes with something to click, drag, simulate or play.

Who makes it?

Stat Mania is written and maintained by Abdullah Al Mahmud, a lecturer in statistics at Mymensingh Girls' Cadet College, Bangladesh. Earlier he taught at Sylhet Cadet College and Pabna Cadet College, worked as a research assistant, and wrote science articles for a national daily. Writing as Abdullah Adil Mahmud, he has also published six popular-science books in Bangla.

The slides, questions and tools are built with open tools: R, Python, Quarto, LaTeX, plain HTML and JavaScript. That is why most of it can be rebuilt from text files and why it stays fast and free.

Good to know

It is free and needs no sign-up. The site uses basic analytics (Google Analytics with IP anonymization) to see which pages are useful. Some games save your scores and settings, such as top 10 lists and the mute choice, in your own browser only.
